There is something magical, for lack of a better term, about using outdated technology. Without it, we wouldn't have the tech of the 2020's, and that's something I think a lot of people take for granted.

So I bought myself three things, a dvd player, a VCR player, and a PS2, all hooked up to the same television. I think it's rather impression how a single television can handle all three consoles from different time periods.

As of now, my VCR is rewinding Top Gun while I do some research, writing my thoughts down in this journal. I'm thinking of throwing away my smart phone soon. I've already got myself a flip phone while i'm at it.

Do pagers still work these days?

A while ago I borrowed my aunt's VCR player, only for its child protection to fail and eject every tape after a mere second. The other VCR players I own are broken, yet I haven't gotten around to get more familiar with them in order to figure out appropriate fixes.

Since at least 2021, I barely use my phone anymore. Maybe to read Wikipedia when sitting in a waiting room or scan some plants. OR as a 2FA device some services unfortunately require. But I still got a landline telephone and an email address other people can use to contact me; close friends know my public keys to encrypted chat services. Pagers still appear to work but I personally wouldn't use them whilst staying at a place like Lebanon...

I haven't seen them in a while (due to moves), but I'm pretty sure I'm down to just a couple VHS tapes... one related to my kids (probably some "Thomas the Tank Engine" tape), and the other my absolute favorite move of all time: "The Family Man" (Nicolas Cage).
